British Columbia is home to a vibrant Armenian community spread across the Lower Mainland, with the greatest concentration in Vancouver, Richmond, and Burnaby. The BC Armenian community may be smaller than Toronto's, but it punches well above its weight in cultural programming — hosting everything from outdoor picnics to multicultural festivals and intimate community gatherings. Here's everything happening for Armenians in Vancouver and across BC in 2026.

Armenian Events in Vancouver & BC in 2026

Armenia Pavilion – West Vancouver Community Cultural Fest – June 5–6

One of the most exciting events for the BC Armenian community, the Armenia Pavilion at the West Vancouver Community Cultural Fest at Ambleside Park brings Armenian culture to one of Metro Vancouver's most scenic oceanside parks. Expect traditional food, cultural displays, music, and dance over two days. This is a wonderful way to introduce Armenian culture to the broader community while celebrating with fellow Armenians.

Annual Picnic – St. Vartan Church & Tekeyan Association of BC – July 12

The St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Church and the Tekeyan Cultural Association of BC co-host their beloved annual summer picnic at Deas Island Regional Park in Tsawwassen — a beautiful location along the Fraser River. This family-friendly gathering is a highlight of the BC Armenian social calendar and a perfect summer outing.

The BC Armenian Community: Who They Are

British Columbia's Armenian community has deep roots stretching back to the early 20th century, with significant growth following the Lebanese civil war in the 1970s-80s and renewed immigration from Armenia and the Middle East in more recent decades. Today, the community is estimated at 8,000–12,000 people across the province.

  • St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Church — the spiritual home of BC's Armenian Apostolic community, based in Richmond

  • Tekeyan Cultural Association of BC — cultural programming, Armenian language classes, and community events

  • Armenian Community Centre of BC — social and cultural hub for the BC Armenian diaspora

  • AGBU Vancouver — youth programs, social events, and community development

  • Homenetmen BC — sports and scouting programs for Armenian youth

Armenian Places of Worship in BC

British Columbia has several Armenian churches and community centres that serve as the anchors of Armenian cultural and spiritual life on the West Coast:

  • St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Church — Richmond, BC

  • Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection — serving Metro Vancouver

  • Armenian Community Centre of British Columbia — Metro Vancouver area

Armenian Food & Culture in Vancouver

Beyond formal events, Vancouver has a growing number of ways to experience Armenian culture day-to-day. The community is known for its warmth and hospitality — whether you're Armenian or simply curious about the culture.

  • Armenian cuisine — search for dolma, manti, basturma, and fresh lavash at Armenian-owned restaurants and delis in the Lower Mainland

  • Armenian grocery shops — specialty stores in Richmond and Burnaby carry imported goods from Armenia and the Middle East

  • Language classes — several community organizations offer Armenian language lessons for children and adults

  • Dance and music — Armenian folk dance ensembles and music schools operate across Metro Vancouver

Vancouver Armenians and the Broader Diaspora

BC's Armenian community is deeply connected to the global Armenian diaspora and stays engaged with events in Armenia. Many BC Armenians maintain close ties to communities in Los Angeles, Paris, Beirut, and Yerevan, and these international connections enrich local cultural programming.

Key causes that unite BC Armenians include Artsakh solidarity, genocide recognition advocacy, Armenian language preservation, and fundraising for Armenia through organizations like the Armenian Relief Society (ARS), AGBU, and Birthright Armenia.
